Welcome to the Nursery Class at

Broadstone Hall Primary School

Who are the team?

The Nursery staff team consists of Mrs Fraser, the Nursery Teacher and Mrs Wicks our Early Years Practitioner. The children will have other adults who work as part of the Early Years team to care for them at lunch time. These adults are Mrs Alexander, Miss Greenhalgh, Mrs Jowett-Hulme and Mrs Redfern.

The Curriculum

The curriculum in Early Years is made up of 7 areas of learning and below is our curriculum overview for the year. This is plan we use to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum that gives the children a wide variety of experiences. However, the beauty of Early Years is that the curriculum is taught through all important play, and our curriculum has a healthy mix of teacher inputs and child led experiences. We pride ourselves on knowing all of our children extremely well and we will tweak our planning based on the children's current interests.

Every day here is filled with fun and laughter, with lots of opportunities for children to learn new skills and to develop into confident and independent learners. Each child is taken on a journey that celebrates their achievements and challenges their own thinking and learning.

Curriculum Overview Document 2021-2022

From September 2020, the EYFS curriculum has changed and we are now primarily using Development Matters to support our planning and ensure progression in learning. In Nursery, we use the 3-4 Year Old section to support our planning and assessment.

Tapestry and Parent Communication

We would like to work in partnership with you to celebrate your child's achievements and to support them in their next steps for learning. We use Tapestry to create an online Learning Journal for every child in the Nursery which is a fantastic way of celebrating the children's achievements and tracking their progress. You will be able to log on and see what your child has been up to in Nursery, comment on their achievements and post pictures of what your child does at home. At the end of the Nursery year, you will be able to download and keep an electronic version of the journal.

We are always available to answer any questions you may have regarding your child's development.
