Summer Reading Challenge 2017

Good morning,

As we look forward to the Summer Holidays :-), Stockport Libraries have launched their new Summer Reading Challenge for this year. It is a national scheme for 4-11 year olds that has been running for 17 years and last year more than 3/4 of a million children took part.

A representative has been in this morning to talk to the KS2 children but it is open to ALL children, 4 - 11 years old. Flyers will be coming home in Book Bags tonight.

If you remember, last year was all about Roald Dahl, and Broadstone had the highest percentage of finishers in the Reddish area, which means we had the most children who read all 6 books and finished the challenge! Well done!

This year's Summer Reading Challenge is Animal Agents.

It's about a detective agency staffed by all kinds of clever animals and has a whodunit element!

All you have to do is read 6 books over the summer holidays. They can be any books and include e-books.

For every 2 books you read you get stickers and a small prize and at the end when you have read all 6 you get a medal and certificate with your name on presented to you in the library and your name is added to a roll of honour to be read out at assembly in September.

This Year we have a couple more incentives: for every child in the Reddish area that finishes the challenge you will enter a prize draw to win a family ticket to the Children’s Book Awards, and another prize of a bag of books. Also the school in the Reddish area with the highest % of finishes will win a small cup to keep in school. Finally the highest % of finishers in all Stockport schools will have a large engraved cup presented at assembly- to keep for 12 months, then hand it back.

Taking part is easy, all you have to do is sign up at your local library and pick up your detective folder and bookmark, there is space on the folder to write down the author and titles of the books u have read.
It also gives you more information about the SRC website with games and activities on it, you can recommend books to other children and there is an app you can download.

There will be an event at your Reddish library over the summer ask for more info at the library

Animal Agents starts on July Sat 15th July and finishes on the 9th September.

Lets try and smash it again this year! Keep up the good work!

Happy Reading!
