Young Quills Awards 2018 - Reviews are now live on the Historical Association’s website!

Dear Parents/Carers,

You may or may not know that the children have been writing book reviews for the Historical Association.

These are now up on the Association’s website, with web pages for each book reviewed and the reviewing students identified by first name only where this has been given.  The school’s name has not been listed against that of the pupil to ensure that their confidentiality is maintained, but all the participating schools are listed on the opening page, which you will find at:

https://www.history.org.uk/ha-news/categories/455/news/3571/young-quills-awards-2018-the-shortlist.

The judges were hugely impressed by the volume of the reviews, and the effort put in by the young reviewers – some went into a great deal of detail and had clearly given considerable thought to the strengths and weaknesses of the book – or books – they were reviewing.  It was also fascinating to see how very different some of the reviews were from each other; characters, storylines and periods of history which were enormously appealing to some just didn’t light the faintest spark in the minds of others.

All the judges who are now in the process of making the final decision on which of the shortlisted books will become the winner in its category have been given copies of the reviews of these books, so they can also take these into account in their considerations.  As soon as they have reached their decision, which should be at the beginning of June, we will let you know which books have been chosen as Young Quills winners this year.

Happy Reading :-)
