News regarding Provision of Laptops During Lockdown January 2021

You may have seen the announcement by the government that lap tops will be made available to vulnerable pupils who are not attending school during the lockdown. Although this statement sounds encouraging, it is not a straight forward as it may first seem.

We have contacted Stockport Local Authority to enquire as to when we could expect to receive our quota, which will be based on our Free School Meal pupil numbers. The Local Authority sent out this statement to school leaders on Friday 08/01/21

“Primary schools will be proactively invited to order devices over the next two weeks. This will be starting with the most disadvantaged areas in the country. The primary schools will be contacted as soon as they can order.”

At the time of writing, we are currently waiting for our invitation to order devices. At the moment therefore, it is not clear as to when we can apply for laptops or how many we will be allocated, based on the needs of the school according to our Free School Meal numbers.

Please be assured that we will make an application as soon as we are able to and will let families who are eligible for devices know once they have arrived. However, as we may be some way down the list of disadvantaged areas nationally, this may be some time in the future.

In the meantime, those families who are struggling to access our remote learning provision through Purple Mash, please contact the office (0161 432 1916).

Yours sincerely,

Simon Langley,

Headteacher
