Mathematics
We use the White Rose Maths framework as the foundation for our teaching, adapting it to meet the needs of our pupils and the context of our school. This allows us to ensure that learning is progressive, inclusive and responsive, while maintaining high expectations for all learners. Teachers use a range of representations, practical resources and mathematical discussion to help children understand concepts in multiple ways and apply their knowledge to new contexts.
In the Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2, we also implement the Mastering Number Programme. This supports pupils in developing strong number sense and fluency, helping them build secure foundations in key mathematical ideas such as number relationships, composition and calculation.
By combining mastery teaching, adapted White Rose planning and the Mastering Number Programme, we aim to nurture confident, resilient mathematicians who enjoy challenge and are able to reason, explain and apply their learning.

Dive Deeper
All children are given the opportunity to access the Dive Deeper task as part of their maths lesson so they can think more deeply about the concepts being taught. After completing the main learning activity, pupils are encouraged to explore the Dive Deeper challenge, which prompts them to explain their reasoning, make connections, and apply their knowledge in different ways. This approach supports deeper mathematical thinking and helps children develop problem-solving skills.
Mastering Number Programme
The NCETM Mastering Number Programme is an initiative that strengthens foundational number sense for pupils from Reception through Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. It provides daily 10 to 15 minute sessions focusing on subitising, composition of numbers, and using manipulatives like rekenreks to build fluency, confidence, and automaticity in addition to their maths lesson.
