Writing
Our Vision for Writing
At Broadstone Hall Primary, we aim to instil our values within our model for writing so that we create confident authors, resilient redrafters and independent publishers, who are writers for life.
Our model for writing follows the same philosophy from year 1 to year 6. At the core, children use reading to drive their passion for writing. When learning to write, pupils are given explicit, direct instruction with modelled live writing, scaffolds for learning and the opportunity to purposefully practise skills until they are embedded in long-term memory. Writing is a craft and therefore, as part of the writing process, children are taught explicitly how to edit and redraft their writing as well as how to publish their writing for a variety of audiences and purposes.
Our Timetabling of Writing
Our approach to writing builds confidence and accuracy by focussing on transcription, with an emphasis on spelling and handwriting from years 1-6. The time allocated to each area of writing is split dependent upon National Curriculum coverage for that year group.
Our Model for Writing
Teachers and learners at Broadstone Hall, use the I, We, You model based on Rosenshine’s principles in all lessons.
