Music
At Broadstone Hall Primary School we use the National Curriculum for music as the basis of our curriculum planning. This has been adapted to create our Priority Standards document outlining what is taught and when. This can be downloaded from the bottom of this page.
Our curriculum delivers the EYFS Framework and statutory National Curriculum in music through a scheme of work called CHARANGA.
Our music curriculum aims to help pupils feel confident, musical and develop a lifelong love of music. We explore a wide range of instruments and musical genres from across the world and throughout history, fostering respect for all musical traditions. We aim to develop key skills including singing, playing tuned and untuned instruments, improvising, composing, and listening and responding using subject-specific vocabulary. Children study a range of music including contemporary, rock and classical music, traditional music by British composers and music from a range of cultures. Music develops a range of important skills such as listening and evaluation skills, fine and gross motor control, self-confidence and creativity. Confidence is built through singing and performance opportunities, alongside cooperative and independent music-making. Through music, pupils develop transferable skills such as teamwork, creativity, leadership and problem-solving, supporting their social development and preparation for life beyond school
Opportunities are given to all pupils at Broadstone Hall Primary School through a range of music activities and provision such as:
